Signal-to-Noise Ratio

In association studies, the ability to detect significant association is usually constrained by the background noise of the population under study. Therefore, unless large cohorts are assembled, a modest genetic signal may be overlooked. Isolated populations with relative genetic and environmental homogeneity may offer opportunities for finding such modest signals.
